Skiing Apparel Guide

When skiing or snowboarding, you are exposed to strong cold winds and sub freezing temperatures. To survive in these harsh conditions, highly technical outdoor garments are a necessity.

The delicate balance of performance values achieved in this parka make it ideal for winter pursuits that require dynamic movement like ice climbing or ski mountaineering. As a bonus the lightweight, versatile nature of this shell means it doesn't have to live in your closet during milder seasons. It's equally valuable during the variable conditions of Spring and Fall or the sudden rains of Summer.

This high performance parka is perfect for winter activities such as alpine climbing and backcountry skiing. Made using Goretex Fabrics and a material with excellent stretch, this combination of technical materials won’t hold you back when doing dynamic backcountry turns or when stretched out on a frozen waterfall. The brushed lining on the inside of the parka increases comfort due to its heat retaining properties, but unlike insulation or other liners, doesn’t increase the jacket’s overall weight too dramatically. During design we carefully selected features to maximize the functionality, like incorporating a material in the hood, cuffs and hem to prevent snow from sticking when you find yourself neck deep in powder. If you need to get outdoors this winter, the Alpine Thermashell Parka will help get you there.

Though this item is great for entry level users, it continues to be a favorite of seasoned alpinists who covet its ability to stand up to extreme conditions. Cut for layering and laden with handy features such as a helmet compatible hood, built-in powder skirt, and adjustable hem and cuffs this hard shell is ideal for the value conscious winter enthusiast. The Freney Parka is perfect for backcountry ski missions and suitable for the occasional winter climb, but not too much gear for other "milder" year-round cold weather activities.

The Cosmic Parka is now more stellar than ever, featuring Montbell's proprietary Stretch DRYTEC material for unsurpassed mobility in the backcountry. The outer layer is knit for a soft, supple feel, while also providing mechanical stretch for unparalleled movement. Fully seam taped, heavily insulated, and water proof the Powder Light Parka is ideally suited to colder wet conditions and surroundings that tend to be vertical nature.

The calling card of this mid-weight softshell is its versatility. Stretchy, yet durable, the Snow Banshee allows excellent mobility and "all day" comfort. Cut for layering and designed to function as a key part of any alpine climbing or backcountry ski kit.

These pants will prove their worth in a variety of environments, from the coldest days in the backcountry to spring skiing. Made using Goretex Fabrics and a material with excellent stretch, this combination of technical materials won't hold you back when doing dynamic backcountry turns or when stretched out on a frozen waterfall. The brushed lining on the inside of the pants increases comfort due to its heat retaining properties, but unlike insulation or other liners, doesn't increase the pants' overall weight too dramatically.

If you are only truly satisfied when you find yourself barreling down the mountain in waist deep powder, then the Powder Track Bib is an absolute must. Durability for those downhill tree runs and superior breathability will keep you feeling dry on the uphill, this bib is chest high and made with GORE-TEX® Pro. Features edge guards, full length side zips for easy putting on and taking off, and an amply sized chest pocket for your phone or camera.

This combination of qualities makes the Multi Trousers extremely flexible, perfect for dynamic movements required by winter sports. Though the Multi Trousers have a number of technical features like inner spats and edge guards, the low profile look of the pants means you won't get strange looks when walking through town after a day in the backcountry.

Versatility and comfort is the name of the game when it comes to tackling the challenges of the backcountry in an alpine setting. The Roche Pants are superb whether enjoying a peaceful snowshoe, gliding the AT skis thru a secret stash of powder, or quite possibly perfect for a lightning fast cool weather mountain ascent. The durable, yet air permeable soft shell fabric provides all day comfort and mobility without completely sacrificing resistance to wind and light precipitation. Cut to allow for seasonal layering these pants are a cool to cold weather workhorse.

Highly technical materials and construction to withstand harsh winter environments

Anti-Glisse Friction Weave

The Anti-Glisse Friction Weave is a specialized nylon fabric, a critical feature for our alpine garments. Twists in individual threads lead to a wavy micro-crimped fabric surface that helps slow a slide and limits snow adhesion to keep the user drier and warmer.

Waterproof / Breathable material

Encountering snow storms while climbing in winter can possibly bring about hypothermia for those unprepared for the conditions, so choosing the right garment is absolutely crucial for alpine pursuits. The waterproof/breathable fabrics, such as GORE-TEX®, STRETCH DRY-TEC®, DRY-TEC®, are highly technical materials which shed wind, rain, and snow, yet effectively release built up moisture within the garment.

Soft Shell material

CLIMABARRIER®

CLIMABARRIER is an ultra-light film with the ability to shield you from wind but still allow some measure of breathability. In this application we have bonded the membrane to a brushed fleece lining for extra warmth and comfort. Additionally, a light weight hard-faced fabric with Durable Water Repellant is used for the outer layer to enhance durability and disperse moisture.

CLIMA PRO

Offering the perfect balance between lightness and warmth, CLIMA PRO fleece provides two times the windstopping ability of regular fleece. A water-repellent treatment on the surface helps the fleece to shed rain and snow, so you stay drier on the outside. This treatment does not interfere with the fabric's ability to breath, however, so you stay drier on the inside too.

Insulating material

EXCELOFT®

Uses a three-dimensionally crimped construction to achieve our warmest polyester insulation. By crimping the large hollow polyester fibers and weaving super micro polyester fibers & micro polyester fibers, we create multiple air strata and maximize loft. EXCELOFT® is as warm as down and dries far faster, making it simple to maintain and ideally suited to wetter climates.

Thinsulate™

The original warmth without bulk insulation. Inch for inch no insulation keeps you warmer than Thinsulate™ insulation. When you compare equal thicknesses, Thinsulate™ insulation provides up to twice the warmth of other high-loft insulating materials and nearly one and a half times the warmth of down.
