When battling bitter conditions and attempting to remain relatively light, while on a budget one must be focused on dollar value and warmth to weight ratio. We utilize an affordable, yet tenacious nylon, eliminate extraneous seam lines, and specify that 34% of the garment weight be pure insulation!

Fill power (or loftiness) refers to the volume in cubic inches that 1 ounce of down will displace. The higher the fill power, the less down is needed to achieve a given thermal profile. All other things being equal (fabric, construction method, and fill amount), a jacket made with high fill power down (1000) is lighter and more compressible than an equally warm one made with lower quality down (650).

What are the differences between Sewn Thru and Box Construction methods?

In Sewn Thru construction, stitch lines go through both the exterior and lining fabrics to join the two layers. The resulting pockets are used to hold insulation in place. This simple method is economical and serves to keep garments as light as possible. However, in the harshest of conditions “cold spots” along the stitch lines can be felt.

In Box Construction, baffle walls are created with lightweight mesh to stabilize insulation and eliminate sewn through stitches. This method is a fractionally heavier and tad labor intensive, but does promote maximum insular loft and warmth.
